Downtown Rochester

Downtown Rochester has some beautiful old architecture. Here are some shots I got just driving around.

My Gram's house. I lived here from age 7-16.







Dick Gullo's office. I worked there for 12 years. He was a good boss and a great person.





The Rochester Auditorium Theater, Main St. This pic does not do it justice.




I think there was a restaurant here called Cathay Pegoda. My Grandma G liked to go there.





Eastman Theater






Sibley Building. Sibley's was a Department store. They had the coolest Christmas display. Each year we would go downtown to see Santa and his reindeer and get a kazoo. I remember blowing raspberries into my kazoo while crossing the slushy street to midtown plaza to ride the monorail.




A cool mural on the corner of Main & Clinton. This used to be Woolworth's Five and Dime. I used to do all of my Christmas Shopping here as a kid/teen. They had am escalator and a lunch counter. I think it closed in the early 90's.

Annie Speaks Poetically

Mom, This is my dog land tree house. The sun is setting over the lake. There are mountains all around and special trees and its always autumn. The water is shimmering and we're sitting on the bench. All the colors, its beautiful. Mom the human closes its eyes and imagines this and there is a toy shop nearby too and of course, the elephant ride

The Organic Side

We lost our garden this year because of pests.  The kids and I were discussing why we lost the crops.  The conversation meandered to conventionally grown blueberries and strawberries and other fruits and vegetables and why they are so bad for you.   We discussed conventionally and organically grown foods, which they are no stranger too, and how and why people use pesticides and herbicides.  We talked about the economics of food and the health ramifications of non-organic foods.  We had a great conversation, full of give and take with lots of questions and exchanging of ideas, possible solutions, and opinions.  Our conversation ended as I continued to clean up from lunch.

A short while later Annie compassionately says, "Mom, it's important to invite our friends The Organic Side!"

Animal Rescue Team in the United States of Imagination

My lovely daughter is nine! For her birthday she decided that instead of having her family and friends bring gifts for her she would rather they bring gifts for animals who live in shelters. And that is what everybody did. She collected bags and bags of animal food, toys, blankets, towels and treats!!!

Her dilemma: where should the ART in the USI donate all this loot.

She decided to donate some of it to the Austin Zoo which is a privately owned, non profit zoo and animal sanctuary. All of the animals at the zoo are rescue animals, either injured or previously pets.

We still have a car load and she wants it to go to the animals who are suffering the most. She has requested that I go on-line and look for the saddest animals. I'm thinking we will head to Town Lake Animal Shelter this week.
